HAGIT PINCOVICI
Born Tel Aviv, Israel, 1978
An Israeli designer based in New York and Milan, Pincovici founded her eponymous bespoke luxury furniture and lighting atelier in 2014. Known for a rich color and material palette, and a devotion to geometric forms, Pincovici has recently turned her attention to nature, inspired by the striking landscape of her native Israel. From marble, brass, and lacquer to sandstone and cast aluminum, she is an intrepid explorer of materials. Her signature clean lines highlight the relationship between the experimental and functional. She collaborates personally with a family of artisans in Brianza, Italy, to create each piece
Pincovici is a graduate of Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and Domus Academy in Milan. She has designed furniture for leading Italian design brands Cole, Miniform, and Baxter, for whom she won a Wallpaper Design Award in 2019

HGT01 CABINET
Exclusively designed by Hagit Pincovici for StudioTwentySeven, the HGT01 Cabinet is an exhilarating study of foregrounding materials, their qualities and histories in the design process. This is the hallmark of Hagit Pincovici’s design philosophy: to employ elemental shapes and architectural compositions to allow the materials to speak to each other and to us in sublime and unexpected ways
The body of the cabinet is constructed of sumptuous travertine, an opulent limestone of unusual warmth and strength that was a favorite of Ancient Romans and modernist architects alike. It is bisected by a biomorphic gush of aluminum foam, a material with a very different story: invented for its lightness and durability in mechanical design, it has only recently been recognized for its aesthetic potential. The travertine and aluminum appear as a nearly solid block, but double doors open to reveal an elegant interior of lacquered wood, the color of travertine, and a moveable glass shelf
This elegant fusion of ancient stone and engineered metal sits atop a delicate pedestal of another storied material: bronze. Long favored by artists and craftsman alike for its durability and ability to capture fine detail, bronze is here used to create a negative space that mirrors and highlights the monumental form above. Pincovici’s minimalist volumes create a breathtaking harmony between three utterly distinctive and storied materials—in that simplicity, we can almost glimpse the whole of human history
